Today’s #ThursdayThought is about an opportunity many accomplished women leaders may be overlooking.

As executives consider their next chapter, private company advisory boards offer a powerful way to continue sharing expertise, influencing strategy, and supporting growth-oriented organizations.

In my latest article, co-authored with Christian Buhagiar and Leah (McGillivray) Palko at GlassRatner Canada, we explore why advisory boards are a strategic advantage for private companies. We also discuss why experienced women leaders are uniquely positioned to add value through their diverse perspectives, leadership experience, and commitment to mentoring others.

Yet access to these opportunities often comes down to more than qualifications; it comes down to visibility, networks, and sponsorship. I have long believed that sponsorship is a transformative act of allyship. When leaders actively advocate for talented women, they help open doors to opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach.

For women leaders considering what’s next, advisory boards may be one of the most impactful ways to extend your influence and continue making a difference.
